Primary School Trip

Dear Parents,

The K2 children had an interesting experience this week as they went on a trip to St Anthony's Canossian Primary School. Before the trip, we had a pre-trip sharing of how the children feel going to primary school next year. Many were nervous and excited, but said that they will miss their friends in Kindy. We were given some PowerPoint slides on "Preparation for a visit to St Anthony's Canossian Primary School". In it, we were shown pictures of the primary school children sitting in groups in the classroom. We were also reminded to queue up to buy food and return plates at the correct metal boxes after eating. The presentation slides helped us a lot in anticipating our visit to the school.

When we arrived, we realized how big the school is as compared to our kindergarten. We were divided into 2 groups. Anya, Akshat, Celestine and Adira joined 1 Steadfast class for Math lesson, whereas Hailey, Serenity, Sasha and Conor joined 1 Courage class for an Art lesson. (*Parenting tip #1: Label all your child's school belongings for ease of identification and location in case they get lost in school).

After lessons, it was time for our canteen experience. We were paired with a Primary 1 buddy who helped us buy food and accompany us during recess time. It was time to flaunt our counting skills. Although it was a challenge to count our money, we did pretty well for our first time. (*Parenting tip #2: Provide small change and different coin denominations to make it easy for your child to pay for their food in the canteen).

We also played games and took more photos with our Primary 1 friends after our canteen experience.

Final class photos before we express our thanks and bid farewell to our host classes and friends.

As we had spare coins, we visited the bookshop and bought mementos for ourselves from the school.

After that, we went on a short school tour to visit the school garden. Guess what we spotted?

Curiously observing what was in the water.

The children saw some small tadpoles and a toad in the water!

Here are some of the K2 children's post field trip reflections...

Adira: I like to buy light pink glitter at the bookshop. I also like having marshmallows at the canteen. I also like watching the other kids dance during music class. I like my Primary 1 buddy because she is really nice and I like going to Primary school.

Akshat: I feel nice as we got to eat and play a little and go to the class. I love the class. I feel awesome going to Primary school.

Anya: I learned that we have to pay for the food in the canteen. I bought pau and milo. I feel great because I can’t wait to go to my own primary school. My Primary school is going to be bigger than the school I am in now.

Celestine: I like to learn things in the Primary school. I learned to do writing and I like playing with the Primary 1 buddies at the garden.

Conor: I feel awesome as I get to buy clay at the bookshop. I also get to buy prata and apple at the canteen. I like the art class because I get to swipe the paintbrush on the paper.

Hailey: I feel kind of shy in the art class as there were so much people, but I like the drawing and the painting part. I like the canteen because I like to buy food. I bought a burger and chrysanthemum tea. I also like to buy the pink glitter from the bookshop.

Sasha: I like to buy the glitter and the clay from the bookshop. I like drinking at the canteen and playing duck duck goose game with the older kids. I can’t wait to go to my Primary school.

Serenity: I feel nervous at first because there were so many people. I like the fact that we did painting and we eat at the canteen. We need to buy our food at the canteen. I bought pau and apple juice. I also bought pink glitter from the bookshop. I also like that we went to the garden.

Till the next post!
