Last Thursday, the K2 children came in colourful outfits to celebrate Hari Raya and Racial Harmony Day. Ms Emelda and Ms Harni planned a line up of activities to commemorate this happy occasion. The children learned to appreciate the different cultures and practices of other races as well as understand the importance of living in harmony.
The children saw their friends who were beautifully dressed in various Malay costumes on that day.
We held a catwalk competition and the children confidently worked the runway to flaunt their outfits.
Congratulations Siddiq, Serenity and Adira!
We then proceeded to our station activities. First up, ketupat making!
Ketupat is one of the Malay traditional food that is often served during Hari Raya. It is a type of rice dumpling packed in a diamond-shaped container made of woven palm leaf pouch.
Instead of inserting rice, we put sweet treats in our special ribbon ketupat.

Next was the paper cutting station.
We watched a video demonstration on how to do a simple Chinese paper cutting craft.
We had to carefully cut slits on our folded papers.
It was tricky at first, but we did it!
Conor and his paper decoration.
We also explored making Kolam in our third station.
Also known as Rangoli, Kolam is an Indian folk art in which patterns are created on the floor using coloured sand or powder and are usually made during Deepavali and other Indian festivals.
Did you notice our Kolam patterns on the carpark?

Look at our colourful Rangoli patterns!
Our last station was line dancing and we did some funky cowboy moves.
The children's final wishes to all their Muslim friends.
Till the next post!
Till the next post!
