Dear Parents,
Here are the highlights of the week's developmental play activities and project work discussions.
Developmental Play
Children learn best through play. Our developmental play is thoughtfully planned and facilitated to promote children's learning in the six different development areas - Aesthetics and creative expression, Discovery of the world, Language and Literacy, Motor skills development, Numeracy and Social emotional development. Let's take a look at what the K2 children were busy with this week...
Anya counted as she dropped the appropriate number of buttons in the cup to show her understanding of subtraction.
Serenity counted how many buttons she has left on the Subtraction Mat.
This hands-on activity allowed Conor to solve subtraction facts using the concrete materials (coloured buttons) provided.
Adira made a mosaic lion craft by using small square pieces of coloured foam.
Akshat using his creativity to draw pictures around his mosaic lion craft using oil pastels.
Serenity drew some beautiful flowers around her lion craft.
Sasha enhancing her fine motor skills by pasting the coloured foam pieces on her lion craft.
Conor practiced his spatial skills by pasting the orange foam pieces within the space given to represent the lion's mane.
Hailey demonstrated her recognition of sight words by reading the words from the word cards and covering the corresponding words on the Sight Word Mat using the geometric wooden shapes.
Conor and Sasha had a fun time exploring with the beans and toy animals in the sensory tub.
Siddiq showed his skills at hopping on one leg as he played the hopscotch game.
Project Work
This term, we embarked on a new topic for project work. After our initial discussion, the children were interested to learn about animals such as tigers, cheetahs and lions. We realized that they all came from the same cat family and that made us decide to learn more about the big wild cats. We watched a video on the Top 10 Biggest Wild Cats to give us an idea of what are the other wild cats we can find in the world.
The children then put on their thinking caps and thought about what they did not know and wanted to find out more about the big wild cats. Here are some of their questions...
